Here are some of the most commonly asked questions users have when
using Envelopes Plus...:
Q: When attempting to use the "Attn:" note feature when printing
envelopes, the "Attn:" line does not print on the bottom of the
envelope like it is supposed to. It prints at the top of the next
envelope.
A: This occurs because the size envelope you have selected from the
"Print"/"Envelopes" sub-menus is too high (tall). A printer can only
print so low on a sheet of paper before it must eject it. If the
printer has detected the end of the envelope before it has printed
the "Attn:" note, it will eject the envelope and continue with the
next. The solution to this problem is to select a smaller size
envelope definition within the program. Preferably select a "user
defined" envelope size and enter a height value less than your
current envelope height. For example, if you are using 4.5" x 9"
envelopes in your printer, then define a custom size envelope from
the "Print"/"Envelope" sub-menus, where the height is 4.25" instead.
Q: I have a laser printer and when I attempt to print envelopes the
text comes out sideways (90 degrees from where it should be).
A: Most laser printers can print in either landscape or portrait
mode. Portrait mode is usually the default on most printers, and is
used when printing text documents and mailing labels. Here is an
illustration:
┌──────────┐
│ This │ ┌──────────────┐
│ is │ │ This is in │
│ in │ │ landscape │
│ portrait │ │ mode │
│ mode │ └──────────────┘
└──────────┘
To get you laser printer to print sideways (landscape) you must
instruct it accordingly. The easiest way to do this is to select
landscape mode from the front panel of the printer. If your printer
does not have this external selection, then you must instruct the
printer internally by sending the appropriate printer escape codes
before printing commences. Envelopes Plus... can send any sequence
of printer escape codes before a print job begins, but you must
define the correct printer escape code sequence. Check your
printer manual for the correct escapes codes to use. Once you know
the correct code, then enter Envelopes Plus..., then select "Print"
from the Main Menu, then select "Printer escade codes", then "Create
new .PCD file" (".PCD" is a file extension designating "printer
codes"). In the .PCD entry chart, enter the corresponding decimal
values, or literal character string. For more information on
printer codes, see page 30 of the Envelopes Plus... documentation.
If you have a question or problem, please make it as easy on the
author as possible when writing. Follow these guidelines if you want
a quick response.
1) Always include a self-addressed U.S. stamped envelope when
writing.
2) Be as specific as you can in explaining your problem. Writing
"the program doesn't work" doesn't help us pinpoint the problem.
Give us as many details as possible. What DOS version are you using?
What kind of printer? What program version are you using (very
important!) Have you tried to recreate the same problem on a
different computer or different printer? Are there any error
messages on the screen?
